Emergency Care
24 Hours A Day, Every Day
Medina Regional Hospital's doors are always open. A physician and two nurses are on duty in the ER at all times. In an emergency, it is important to go to the nearest medical facility.
Medina Regional Hospital has the capabilities to treat or stabilize major traumas and provide transfer to a facility with a higher level of care if necessary. The Emergency Department staff at the hospital must maintain advanced cardiac and trauma training certification in order to maintain its Level IV trauma designation.
Medina Regional Hospital is committed to providing you quality care. Patients and their families who experience a medical crisis are often anxious. They want to receive care as soon as possible. We understand this and will do our very best to make it happen. As a rule, sicker people are often seen first. Someone who comes in by ambulance or who has trouble breathing, chest pain or severe bleeding will be seen before someone whose condition is not life threatening. Our goals are to find out what is causing your problem and controlling any uncomfortable symptoms. The emergency physician will most likely need to order tests, such as blood tests, an EKG or x-rays to help determine the nature and extent of the problem.
It takes time to perform these tests and analyze the results. If the physician orders medications or other treatment, you may need to be observed for a period of time before you are discharged. If you have any questions, regarding your treatment, our staff should be able to answer your questions at any time during your visit.
In the event of an emergency, always go to the nearest facility. MRH has the capacity to stabilize a patient and transfer them if they require a higher level of care. The hospital works closely with AirLife and local ambulance services to transport a patient safety, keeping them stable until they get to a San Antonio hospital, something that is not possible in a family member's car.
