Medina Community Hospital, located on a 6.8 acre site in southeast Hondo, has been providing quality healthcare to Medina County residents since 1964. Medina Community Hospital is licensed by the Texas Department of Health, is designated as a Sole Community Provider and a Critical Access Hospital.
The hospital is planning a major renovation project, which is expected to begin in Fall 2005. The plans include adding an area to house the MRI and CT scanner, improving the admissions and registration areas, renovating the emergency room and adding a medical office building. Community support of the plans for growth and renovation of the facilities will be essential to keep affordable healthcare in the area. Tax-deductible contributions can be made to the Medina Community Hospital Auxiliary or the Medina Healthcare Fund to support the renovation project.
MCH offers a wide range of services from 24-hour emergency care and general acute care to three Rural Health Clinics in Hondo and one clinic in Devine for primary and preventative care. The professional, friendly staff is here to provide top-notch healthcare in a convenient and caring atmosphere. Services available include general acute care, obstetric services with family-oriented birthing rooms, inpatient and outpatient surgery, including outpatient eye surgery. Other services include diagnostic radiology, ultrasound, mammography, CAT scan and MRI; clinical laboratory services, cardiac stress test, respiratory therapy, rehabilitation including physical therapy and speech therapy. General surgery, ophthalmic surgeries and podiatric surgeries are performed at Medina Community Hospital.
The Medical Staff consists of five board-certified family practice physicians and a general surgeon on active staff at Medina Community Hospital. These physicians also provide patient care at the Medical clinics of Hondo and Devine. The Surgical and Specialty Clinic, located at 606 31st street, houses the general surgeon's office and provides exam facilities for numerous specialty physicians on a scheduled basis. These specialists include ophthalmology, urology, ear, nose and throat (ENT), plastic surgery, nephrology, rheumatology, cardiology, gasteroenterology, hematology/oncology, gynecology and Beltone hearing services. Orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Keith Markey joined the Specialty Clinic in 2004. The hospital and clinics accept Medicare, Medicaid and most insurance plans.
The hospital and clinics employ a variety of professionals, from Physician Assistants, certified health technicians and varying levels of skilled nursing staff, to hospital managment, administrative support, billing specialists, clerical staff, dietary, housekeeping and maintenance personnel. MCH employs almost 200 full and part-time employees with an annual payroll of $5.6 million.
