Childbirth Education Classes Now Offered at MCH
Medina Community Hospital is happy to announce the addition of Patti Oestreich, who will be conducting childbirth education classes at the hospital. Classes are held on Tuesday evenings in the Administration Building Conference Room from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. The classes are free to parents delivering their baby at Medina Community Hospital.
"The birth of a baby is the most wondrous of events," said Ms. Oestreich. "Childbirth classes, along with your doctor, can help answer the unknowns, ease your fears, and give you skills to have a birth filled with cherished memories."
Ms. Oestreich offers a six-week series on Childbirht Preparation. Each two-hour class is individualized to meet the parents' needs. Topics include: A Healthy Pregnancy; Comfort for Pregnancy, Signs of Concern; Labor & Birth Process (Vaginal/Cesarean); Coping with Labor; Medications for Labor; Planning the Birth; Your Care After Birth. The classes will also include a session on Infant Care to teach skills to care or baby and help the parent feel confident in their new role. As a certified lactation consultant and breastfeeding educator, Ms. Oestrich also provides instruction on the most natural way to feed your baby so that mother and baby have a successful breastfeeding experience.
Ms. Oestreich is a certified childbirth educator, a certified lactation consultatnt and breastfeeding educator, a certified Doula (midwife) and a trained Child Passenger Safety Technician. She has over 20 years of experience in childbirth education and over 30 years in education field. She has worked at Women's & Children's Hospital in San Antonio and with Methodist Healthcare in San Antonio providing women's health and wellness education. In addition to childbirth education, her training allows her to provide education on CPR, home safety, car seat safety and state laws, and pre-pregnancy planning.
Classes should be scheduled as soon as your pregnancy is confirmed since class size is limited. Classes should be completed by the eighth month of pregnancy. To register for the classes, please contact Patti Oestreich at 210-363-6089 or email her at BirthToBeginning@aol.com.
