Fifty-seven-year-old Rodger Welch was looking forward to retirement when he was stricken with Guillen Barre syndrome. Rodger's experience with this disorder resulted in full paralysis and breathingwith a respirator, and limited recovery of his mobility after several weeks in San Antonio hospitals. He began outpatient physical therapy in July 2009 at Medina Regional Hospital, and is now able to walk unassisted thanks to continued rehabilitation. He's regained partial movement in his right elbow thanks to the electric stimulation therapy available at Medina Regional. His doctors expect that he will make a full recovery in six to twelve months.
