The Vice President of Nursing reports to the Chief Nursing Officer and shares administrative authority and responsibility for the practice of nursing and ancillary clinical services supporting the mission, vision, and values of MHS. This position is responsible for aligning multiple clinical departments within the hospital in a common mission while fostering interdisciplinary collaboration in the development of high quality, cost effective and integrated programs across the full continuum of care. Areas of responsibility include productivity, regulatory compliance, assistance with performance improvement and service excellence initiatives and managerial staff development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Vice President of Nursing is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating the activities of each assigned departments to maintain high quality patient care and standards.
Ensures departments meet all regulatory requirements related to federal, state and CMS standards and laws.
Keeps the Chief Nursing Officer informed of issues and departmental situations as necessary.
Identifies problems and communicates solutions to the appropriate personnel.
Recommends improvements in assigned department and hospital system to provide improved utilization of personnel and resources.
Develops strong working relationships with providers and contracted services.
Serves as a liaison between physicians, staff, and administration.
Assists in the investigation of complaints and works towards resolution.
Initiates and reviews department policies to meet local, state, and federal regulations and standards of care.
Plans and operates within the approved budget for assigned departments.
Supervision of staff, evaluating performance, and identifying opportunities for further improvement.
Reporting relationships between external vendors and the healthcare organization.
Attends and actively participates in pertinent meetings and Committees.
Responsible for recruitment and retention activities.
Participates in hospital disaster planning.
Shares responsibility for providing administrative coverage for the hospital outside of regular business hours.
Oversees budgets for assigned departments.
Manages to budget based on appropriate workload indicators and anticipated revenues. Monitors and controls department costs to maintain expenditures within allocations. Recommends acquisition of capital equipment.
Manages Medina Healthcare System grants.
Exhibits progressive professional development.
Demonstrates reliability and flexibility.
Assists units with staffing during periods of high volume, etc. including working shifts when necessary.
Completes other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor of Nursing degree from four-year college. Master’s Degree in nursing, healthcare or business preferred. Two years management experience required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Current Texas Registered Nurse licensure, BLS required within 30 days of hire, ACLS and NRP required within 90 days of hire, PALS required within 180 days of hire.
