Director of L&D/Women's Health






Directs the operations, programs, and activities in a specified clinical area of a medical center or hospital such as Maternal and Child Care, and Medical/Surgical Care, by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
-Plans and organizes activities related to specified clinical services to ensure patient needs are met in accordance with professional standards of medical and nursing care and hospital or center administrative procedures.
-Coordinates activities with other hospital departments, patient care units, ambulance services, medical staff, patients' relatives, law enforcement officers, clergy, morticians, the media, and other health facilities.
-Develops, implements, and evaluates methods to ensure effective and efficient use of staff, facilities, equipment, and other resources while maintaining patient care standards.
-Develops, implements, and coordinates quality management, utilization review, and discharge planning programs.
-Consults with nurse managers and medical staff on patient care or nursing problems and interpretation of hospital or center policies to ensure patient needs are met.
-Plans and organizes orientation and in-service training for staff members, and participates in guidance and educational programs.
-Visits units to observe procedures and make appropriate suggestions and recommendations for improving techniques, policies, and procedures.
-Formulates budget based on appropriate workload indicators and anticipated revenues. Monitors and controls department costs to maintain expenditures within allocations.
-Recommends acquisition of capital equipment.
-Engages in studies and investigations related to improving delivery of services.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor of Nursing degree from four-year college or university preferred. Two years management experience highly preferred.. Current Texas Registered Nurse licensure required.
