Patient Care Tech - Med/Surg
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) delivers high quality, patient-centered care by performing a variety of delegated basic patient care services related to common nursing functions and activities of daily living. Under the supervision of the registered nurse (RN), the PCT assists the nursing staff in providing patient care in accordance with the PCT’s skills/training and the needs of the department, and consistently assists the patient care team with maintaining a clean, well-organized, and safe patient care environment. The PCT complies with hospital policies
Answers and responds to call lights or alarms to determine patients’ needs. Bathes, dresses, and undresses patients.
Serves and collects food trays and feeds patients that require help. Transports patients or assists patients to walk.
Turns and repositions bedfast patients, alone or with assistance, to prevent skin breakdown. Changes bed linens, runs errands within the hospital, directs visitors and answers telephones.
Takes and records temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration rates, food and fluid intake and output, as directed.
Performs phlebotomy when needed.
Performs electrocardiograms (EKG) when needed.
Performs patient accuchecks and reports results appropriately.
Straightens patient rooms as necessary and makes sure the walkways are free of clutter to provide an environment to assist in fall prevention.
Document in electronic medical record as necessary.
Report changes in patient status or needs to licensed personnel in a timely manner.
Conducts activities for swingbed patients as identified in the plan of care.
Supports and participates in department performance improvement.
Adheres to policies and procedures of Medina Healthcare System. Other duties as assigned or delegated by licensed personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Completion of Patient Care Technician (PCT) program w/ certification in phlebotomy and CNA. Certification in EKG preferred. BLS within 30 days of hire. 1 year of experience in an acute care setting preferred.
