Registered Dietician (PRN)
Summary: Plans therapeutic diets and implements preparation and service of meals for patients in hospital, clinic, or other healthcare facility by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
-Conducts a nutrition assessment and obtains nutrition history from patient.
-Consults with physician and other health care personnel to determine patient's nutritional needs and diet restrictions, such as low fat or salt free.
-Formulates menus for therapeutic diets based on medical and physical condition of patients, and integrates patients' menus with basic institutional menus.
-Develops and implements plan of care based on assessment of nutritional needs and available sources, and correlates plan with other healthcare.
-Instructs patients about meal plan and dietary changes, and establishes goals and objectives to help meet the plan.
-Evaluates nutritional care and provides follow-up continuity of care.
-Documents nutrition care plans and information into patient's medical records.
-Inspects meals served for conformance to prescribed diets and for standards of palatability and appearance.
-Instructs patients and their families in nutritional principles, dietary plans, food selection, and preparation.
-Supervises activities of workers engaged in food preparation and service.
-Engages in nutritional research.
-Teaches nutrition and diet therapy to medical students and hospital personnel.
-Other duties may be assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
Fifth year college or university program certificate; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
