Description:

Coordinate activities and conduct department operational tasks of the rehabilitation department for
physical, occupational and speech therapy services. Possess the ability to comprehend and follow written
or verbal instruction or directions. Adheres to MHS Standard Precaution policy and procedure. Performs
other duties as requested by supervisor. Work with supervisors, other department managers and medical
staff in order to provide the best patient care possible.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Interviews patients and/or patient representatives to obtain demographic information, insurance and
provider data.


-Discusses covered services, insurance limitations and deductible requirements with patients. Estimates
costs of procedures and reviews existing account balances.
-Maintains log for annual Medicare Cap for physical, occupational and speech therapy services.
-Applies appropriate KX modifiers once cap is met to receive payment for medically necessary services.-
-Works with Patient Financial Services to address denials and proper coding of services.
-Explains healthcare regulations such as payment of accounts and schedule of charges to patients.
-Escorts patients or arranges for escort to assigned modality.
-Enters patient admitting information into the electronic health record and routes printed copies to
designated departments or scans as required.
-Obtains signed statement from patients to protect privacy and explain patient rights.
-Compiles data for monthly operational volume statistics overall and by modality.
-Receives payments on accounts.
-Obtains and manages pre-certification and re-certification for services from insurance providers.

-Answers the telephone, schedules appointments, conducts administrative tasks, completes provider
referrals and confirms insurance coverage during the patient’s treatment schedule.
-Shares pertinent patient information to therapists.
-Monitors wait times for initial therapy referrals and adjusts therapist schedules to ensure prompt
response to referrals.
-Works with the department director on special projects as assigned.
-Documents in electronic medical record as necessary.
-Supports and participates in department performance improvement.
-Other duties as assigned or delegated by licensed personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION:
One year certification from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or
training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Associate degree preferred. BLS
required within 30 days of hire.
