Medina Regional Hospital named to Top 20 Critical Access Hospital list

Medina Regional Hospital in Hondo, Texas was recently named one of the Top 20 Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs) for QUALITY in the country.

The Top 20 Critical Access Hospitals, including Medina Regional Hospital, scored best among critical access hospitals in iVantage Health Analytics’ Hospital Strength Index™ for quality. The rankings were recently announced by the National Rural Health Association (NRHA). An awards ceremony will be held during NRHA’s Critical Access Hospital Conference in October in Kansas City, Mo.

Those hospitals that have been recognized as Top 20 Critical Access Hospital “best practice recipients” have achieved success in one of three key areas of performance:

Quality index: A rating of hospital performance based on the percentile rank across the five categories of Hospital Compare Process of Care measures. Patient perspective index: A rating of hospital performance based on the percentile rank on two Hospital Compare HCAHPS measures (“Overall Rating” and “Highly Recommend)”. Financial stability index: A rating of hospital performance based on the percentile rank on a set of balance sheet and income statement financial ratios. Overall: A rating based on the average rating among all pillars of strength.

The Top 20 Critical Access Hospital “winners” are those hospitals who have achieved success in the overall performance based on a composite rating of all ten of iVantage’s indices of strength.

“Medina Regional Hospital is proud of the efforts of its physicians and staff who have contributed to our hospital achieving this designation,” said Janice Simons, CEO. “Our results as a top Quality facility means our community can count on us to deliver the services they need now and in the future.” Medina Regional Hospital’s Quality Director, Billie Bell, RN, BSN, CCM, added “as the only Texas Critical Access Hospital selected in the Top 20 in Quality designation, this is a significant award and classifies our hospital as an exemplar of best practices. It is a tremendous honor and is a testament of the hospital’s culture of safety and quality, as well as the commitment of all staff to providing outstanding patient care.”
