Medina Healthcare System CEO Janice Simons recently announced the hiring of Enrique Iturbe as the new laboratory director. Former Director, Ryan Proctor, has assumed duties as the Assistant Laboratory Director to allow him to spend more time with his family.
Iturbe received his medical technologist degree from the University of Minnesota. He holds a Master of Business Administration in healthcare management from the University of Phoenix. A native of Carrizo Springs, Iturbe began his career as a lab technician at Dimmit Regional Hospital over 30 years ago. Most recently, he served as the Assistant Administrator for Dimmit Regional Hospital. He brings a wealth of experience in different aspects of healthcare management to his new position at Medina. "I love microbiology, hematology, blood banking and the clinical side of the lab. This new position gives me the opportunity to share my passion for patient care with our staff and provide the best laboratory services we can to Medina County and the surrounding area," says Iturbe.
"We are fortunate to recruit a highly skilled healthcare professional such as Enrique," says Simons. "He has served as a laboratory director in Uvalde for many years and also has experience as an assistant hospital administrator at another rural hospital. His knowledge of laboratory sciences is impressive."
Iturbe served as adjunct assistant professor in clinical laboratory sciences for the University of Texas Health Science Center for nine years and as laboratory consultant for the Uvalde Memorial Hospital Rural Clinic Laboratory for 10 years. Later this month, he will become a fellow in the Association of Healthcare Executives (FACHE), after completing a fellowship program through the Texas Hospital Association. He currently lives in Uvalde with his wife and is active in the Uvalde community.
