There are many surgical services available at Medina Regional Hospital. The majority of surgeries are done on an outpatient basis. This means the patient comes to the hospital on the morning of surgery and goes home the same day. Patients are scheduled for surgery by their physician. Patients are then asked to come to the hospital a few days before their surgery to preregister and to receive preoperative instructions from a nurse. The nurse will obtain a short medical history and explain the surgical routine to the patient.
Types of surgeries performed at Medina Regional Hospital include:
- General surgery.
- Breast biopsy/mastectomy.
- Gynecology and sterilization services.
Laparoscopic surgery allows doctors to do surgery without making large cuts. A thin, lighted tube with an attached camera is inserted through a tiny incision in the abdomen. The camera sends images to a video screen, allowing the doctor to see inside the body while performing surgery. Other small incisions might be needed for instruments used. The advantage of laparoscopic surgery is a decrease in postoperative recovery time. Patients are often back at work in a few days.
