Medina Healthcare System is happy to announce the addition of Nicholas E. Gerken, MD, Orthopedic Surgeon, to Specialty Clinic #3.

Dr. Nicholas E. Gerken is from Wilton, Connecticut. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in General Biology from Colgate University in Hamilton, New York in 2003 and his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Centre Grenada, West Indies in 2010. He completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2016 before beginning the University of Virginia Adult Reconstructive Fellowship in July 2017. Dr. Gerken has dedicated a large portion of his practice perfecting and performing Minimally Invasive Anterior Hip Replacement Surgery. Although the procedure has been around for several years, advancements in instrumentation and techniques is allowing for smaller incisions making this option increasingly sought after with rapid recovery and shorter hospital stays for carefully selected patients. Dr. Gerken currently is the only surgeon in Alamo Orthopedics who offers this approach.
Dr. Gerken has had a longstanding interest in medical research and has produced several peer reviewed articles and book chapters with numerous national presentations. Beyond his academic accomplishments, Dr. Gerken co-founded the Grenada Diabetes Clinic, restoring an old facility that was destroyed during Hurricane Ivan in 2006. Dr. Gerken’s accomplishments demonstrate a professional focused on helping his patients: “When I decided to become a doctor, I knew that service would always be the cornerstone of my practice.
